Rug Cleaning in Geelong
A rug takes more wear than the carpet around it. It sits in the walkways, under the dining table and in front of the couch, so it collects grit, spills and pet hair faster than anything else on the floor.
We clean wool and synthetic rugs in homes across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast. Every rug gets a fibre and dye check before we start, then a thorough vacuum, stain treatment and a hot water extraction clean in your home. Many customers book their rugs with their carpet steam cleaning or couch cleaning, and it's all done in the one visit.

We Check Every Rug Before We Clean It
Some rugs don't cope with water. Viscose (often sold as art silk or bamboo silk) can brown and lose its sheen, jute can shrink and stain, and hand-knotted Persian and oriental rugs need a specialist rug washer. We don't clean those rugs, and we'll tell you before we start if yours is one of them.

Why Geelong Families Book Us for Their Rugs
Wow Clean Carpets is owned and run by Rodney Driessen, and we've been cleaning carpets, rugs and couches around Geelong for more than 20 years. We hold a 5.0 rating from 665 Google reviews, and rugs come up in plenty of them.
Honest Advice on Your Rug
We check the label, the fibre and the dyes first. If a rug is likely to bleed, shrink or brown, we say so and leave it alone. One customer wrote that our technician "inspected the rugs prior and advised that he couldn't do them due to the fabric."
Booking Made Simple
You get a booking confirmation, a message the day before, and a text when your technician is on the way. Pay on the day by card, cash or bank transfer, and we email the receipt.

The Rugs We Clean
Our rug cleaning covers the rugs most Geelong homes have on the floor. If you aren't sure what your rug is made of, send us a photo of the label and we'll let you know.
Rugs You Thought Were Past Saving
A lot of rugs we see were close to being thrown out. One customer had a rug her cat had ruined, and she was ready to take it to the tip. She had paid over $800 for it, and she called us before giving up. We cleaned and deodorised it. Another customer watched her cream rug come up so clean that, in her words, it "ended up white".
If your rug has been through a lot, send us a photo and we'll give you an honest view before you book.

How We Clean Your Rug
- Check the fibre and dyes. We read the label, look at the weave and test a hidden spot for colour run.
- Vacuum thoroughly. Dry grit comes out first, from the front and the back. If it's left in, water turns it into mud.
- Pre-treat spots and traffic areas. Stains, pet accidents and grey walkways get a product suited to the fibre.
- Hot water extraction. The machine pushes hot water and solution through the pile and pulls the dirty water straight back out. The Carpet Institute of Australia describes this method as the most common way to deep clean carpet.
- Deodorise where it's needed, for pet odour and smells that have soaked in.
- Groom and dry. We set the pile and leave the rug raised or turned so air can get to it. Open windows or a fan help it dry faster.
Rug Fibres at a Glance
| Rug | Do we clean it? | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Wool and wool blends | Yes | Naturally stain resistant. Needs wool-safe products and careful drying. |
| Nylon | Yes | Tough and cleans well. Traffic lanes come up clearly. |
| Polypropylene and polyester | Yes | Resists water-based stains but holds oily soil, which a proper clean removes. |
| Shag and thick pile | Yes, synthetic and wool | Takes longer to dry. We extract more water and groom the pile. |
| Viscose, rayon, art silk, bamboo silk | No | Can brown and lose its sheen when wet. |
| Jute, sisal and other plant fibres | No | Can shrink and leave brown water marks. |
| Hand-knotted Persian and oriental rugs | No | Best sent to a specialist rug washer. |

Rug Cleaning FAQs
How much does rug cleaning cost?
It depends on the size of the rug, the fibre and how much stain and odour treatment it needs. If you'd like carpets or a couch done in the same visit, you get a better price for the whole job. Call us on 0418 120 387 or send a photo through our contact form for a quote.
Do you clean rugs in my home?
Yes. We clean rugs in your home with the same hot water extraction equipment we use for carpets, usually in the same visit as your carpets or couch. We don't take rugs away, so there's no pick-up or drop-off to arrange.
How long does a rug take to dry?
Most of the water is extracted during the clean. Like carpet, a rug can take up to 24 hours to dry, depending on the thickness of the pile, airflow and the weather. Keep it off timber floors until it's completely dry.
Which rugs don't you clean?
We don't clean viscose (art silk or bamboo silk), jute or other plant-fibre rugs, or hand-knotted Persian and oriental rugs. These need a specialist rug washer, and we'll tell you before we start if your rug is one of them.
Can you get pet urine out of a rug?
In most cases we can remove the stain and the smell. Urine that has been in a rug for a long time can change the dye permanently, so we'll give you an honest view of what to expect before we start.
How often should a rug be cleaned?
About once a year for a rug in a busy room, and every 6 to 12 months if you have pets or young children. The Carpet Institute of Australia recommends a professional clean every 12 to 18 months for carpet in a home.
