Pet Stain and Odour Removal in Geelong
Most pet accidents look small on top and are much bigger underneath. Urine runs down through the carpet into the backing and the underlay, spreads out, and dries there. The spot you cleaned up looks fine for a while, then the smell comes back on the first warm or humid day.
We remove pet stains and odours from carpets, rugs and fabric couches in homes across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast. We treat the affected areas, clean them with hot water extraction, and deodorise where it's needed. Before we start, we'll tell you honestly what is likely to come out.

An Honest Answer Before We Start
Fresh accidents usually come out completely. Urine that has sat for months can bleach or change the colour of the fibre, and no clean can put that colour back. We'll look at the stain, tell you what to expect, and only then start. One customer wrote that we were "honest enough" to "admit pet stain would not be 100 per cent removed."

What We Treat
Pet accidents end up on more than the carpet. We treat all of these, often in the same visit.
Before You Call Us: What to Do Straight Away
Blot up as much as you can with a dry white cloth or paper towel, pressing down hard. Don't rub, because it spreads the stain and pushes it deeper. Then blot with plain water, which is what the Carpet Institute of Australia recommends before any product goes near the stain. Avoid ammonia and strong household cleaners, which can set the stain and can smell like urine to a pet, so they come back to the same spot.

Why Pet Odour Keeps Coming Back
When urine dries, it leaves salts and crystals in the fibres, backing and underlay. Moisture in the air wakes them up, which is why the smell is strongest on warm, damp days or after the carpet has been cleaned with a hire machine that wet it but didn't extract enough water. Surface sprays cover the smell for a day or two, then it returns.
A proper clean treats the whole affected area, flushes it with hot water and extracts it with strong suction, then deodorises what's left. If urine has soaked right through the underlay over a long time, the underlay can hold the smell even after the carpet is clean. In that case we'll tell you, and replacing that section of underlay is a job for a flooring business.
How We Remove Pet Stains and Odours
- Find the problem areas. We check where the smell is coming from, because it's often wider than the stain you can see.
- Vacuum. Pet hair and dry soil come out first.
- Pre-treat. Stains and odour spots get a treatment matched to the fibre and left to work.
- Hot water extraction. The area is flushed and the water pulled back out, taking the loosened soil and residue with it.
- Deodorise and groom. We deodorise the treated areas and groom the pile so it dries evenly.
- Dry. Allow up to 24 hours for the carpet to dry, with good airflow. Keep pets off until it's fully dry.
Pet Stain and Odour FAQs
Can carpet cleaners get pet urine out?
Yes, in most cases. A professional clean treats the urine, flushes it out with hot water extraction and deodorises the area. Fresh accidents usually come out completely. Old urine can leave a permanent mark where it has changed the dye, and we'll tell you that before we start.
What draws urine out of carpet?
At home, blotting with a dry cloth and then cold water draws out the most. For urine that has dried into the backing, a hot water extraction clean works best, because it flushes the area and uses strong suction to pull the water and residue back out of the carpet.
Which carpet cleaner is best for removing pet urine?
Look for a local business that uses hot water extraction, treats odour at the source, and is honest about what will and won't come out. Ask whether they clean the whole affected area or only the visible stain. We hold a 5.0 rating from 665 Google reviews, and pet owners wrote a good share of them.
Will the smell come back?
If the urine has been removed from the carpet, the smell shouldn't return. If it has soaked deep into the underlay over a long time, some smell can remain until that underlay is replaced, and we'll let you know if we think that's the case.
Do you clean pet stains on couches and rugs?
Yes. We clean fabric couches and wool and synthetic rugs. We don't clean leather, viscose, jute, or hand-knotted Persian and oriental rugs.
How much does pet stain removal cost?
It depends on how many areas are affected, how old the stains are, and how much of the rest of the house you'd like cleaned in the same visit. Call 0418 120 387 or send photos through our contact form for a quote.
